Yes, we have some bananas today

There's no better pick-me-up in the world than getting cake in the mail.

Bonus points if that cake, (A) comes in its own adorable little jar, (B) has a generous slather of icing on top, and (C) is made of bananas.

Banana cake! With icing, in tiny jars! In the mail! It's a real thing, people.

After reading an interview with California baker Courtney Dougherty about her tiny-banana-cakes-in-tiny-jars start-up Bananappeal on CakeSpy's sweetly delightful blog not long ago, I knew a couple of these 'nana treats would be just the thing to lift a blue friend's spirits.

A few short days and no hassle later, what did my pal find in her mailbox, but a wee Banana Peanut Butter and a Banana Salted Caramel cake -- just waiting to cheer her up.

The cakes are baked fresh, sealed tight, and last at room temperature for a week (or 18 days, if you pop 'em in the fridge right quick). Single-serving frosted cakes are available in 4oz jars, and some flavors are available in shareable 8oz portions, too.

Besides the BPB and banana-caramel I ordered, Courtney also bakes up toasted coconut and fudge varieties, as well as mini cheesecakes. (Banana Ginger Snap? Yes, please.) There are even a couple gluten-free options available -- hallelujah!

Though the company's's website is still under construction, you can easily order these little delights by e-mailing Courtney or visiting Bananappeal's Facebook page for more details.

And I think you should -- it will probably brighten somebody's day. (Or, you know, your own.)

  5. Well we certainly were operating on similar wave lengths!! Awesome little jars that would be adorable to send to someone as a treat. It's pretty fun to eat a dessert out a little jar!

  6. I came across your blog via Oh Joy! and wanted to comment and say that I think this is fantastic! I've been wanting to make my own version of these, but since I'm not a baker (not even close), this is definitely more up my alley! I can't wait to order and try this!

  7. @Stacy A I'm also 100% not a baker, so this is perfect for me, as well. I kind of just want to keep ordering them, so I have a steady stream of delicious mail coming all the time!

(Let me know how you like them, and thanks so much for stopping by the ol' blog.)
